Why on earth would you want to use "wireless" Internet for your company or business?
Today, wireless broadband, also referred to as "fixed wireless" (as opposed to mobile), has become a cost effective solution for businesses that need a fully redundant backup Internet connection. OR businesses that are just located too far out in a rural area, to be able to receive anything else. Except for maybe legacy old & slow dial-up, or satellite, which has strict bandwidth caps.
Fixed wireless provides a TRUE backup solution to your existing terrestrial based T1, DS3, Metro Ethernet, etc. high speed line. For example: If you have a T1 and need redundancy/fail-over, your 1st thought might be to order a 2nd T1 from a different carrier. However since T1s and most other wireline telco connections originate out of a local CO (central office), this service provider center is used by all other carriers, as only a handful of carriers own rights to the "last mile". This last mile is considered the copper wiring that terminates to each individual building in the US. So as one could imagine, this spans thousands of miles and costs millions of dollars in overhead.
3 main telco carriers exist today which control the last mile terrestrial majority: AT&T, Verizon, Qwest/CenturyLink (aka "the big 3"). So if you're with *** T1 provider, but in an AT&T territory, an AT&T technician will be dispatched to install your line. And it will originate out of an AT&T CO. Even though they might not be the ISP for your T1. So you have *** as your carrier, but want ### as your backup T1 carrier. That line will also originate out of the same CO. As per FCC regulations, multiple carriers are authorized to provide service via POPs (point of presence) inside of as many of the "big 3" COs as they can. This rule however does not apply to other small last mile carriers, i.e.: Farmer John's Telco Service, etc.
This is how fixed wireless broadband provides a major advantage. It jumps right past everyone and delivers..

How it is possible that the biggest software development company in the world - Microsoft Corporation, makes such big oops? Check out this screen capture below - "This web site wants to run the following add-on: "Windows Media Player Extension" from Microsoft Corporation". If you trust the web site and the add-on and want to allow it to run, click here..."
"Internet Explorer" from Microsoft is not sure if it trusts "Windows Media Player" also from Microsoft, is this funny, sad, plain dumb or business as usual for Bill Gates & Company...

Africa's leading cellular operator MTN Group, choose the VectaStar platform from Cambridge Broadband Networks for its multi-service wireless network in Rwanda. MTN use VectaStar to provide high speed Internet access to business customers.
This deployment, in the 3.5GHz licensed spectrum band, follows a successful VectaStar deployment by the MTN Group in Cameroon.
The key reason MTN chose the VectaStar platform is because of its support for multiple traffic types and applications. Also "VectaStar is a technology-neutral platform that supports all our backhaul and access applications in a single network..."
VectaStar also enables MTN to maximise the use of its limited radio spectrum. This is made possible by VectaStar's high spectral efficiency and spectrum reuse combined with its advanced traffic optimisation and multiplexing.

Orange and Vodafone Spain made an agreement to share 3G infrastructure in towns where lives less than 25,000 people in 19 provinces of the Spain. This agreement, currently covers about 1,000 base stations. This parthership relation will give both operators to increase coverage by around 25%. They xpected to have risen to 1,500 shared base stations by the end of this year. They want to cover rural parts of Alicante, Castellon, Valencia, Granada, Malaga, Seville, La Coruna, Pontevedra, Baleares, Ciudad Real, Toledo, Cuenca, Guadalajara, Barcelona, Madrid, Logrono, Navarra, Guipuzcoa and Vizcaya. Within four years the pair expect to share around 5,000 base stations.

New Nokia 5800 a touch screen device that will be an excellent competitor to Apple's iPhone when it comes to price and features.

Technical Specs:
* S60 5th Edition
* 360×640 display
* touch screen
* Quad band WCDMA (850/900/1900/2100)
* MicroSDHC
* Bluetooth/WiFi
* micro USB
* 3.2MP autofocus camera
It’s marketed as a Music phone and is one of the first “Comes with Music” phones which come with unlimited music for one year. After a year you’re supposed to dump the phone and get a new one.
The stylus is kind of retro, but like they say classical look never goes out of style.

If you are newly graduated student with electrical engineering degree and want to get into the wireless telecom industry, here are some steps you should consider:
1. Check for entry level positions in the telecommunications industry in the areas/countries that not everybody would like to work.
2. Educate yourself on the wireless technologies you would like to work with, there is plenty of information on the internet, 3g, 4g, LTE, WiMAX and any other future wireless technologies
3. To get into the company, apply for other jobs, once you are in the company you will have a chance to apply for the job you really want
4. Take paid courses and trainings on the technologies you want to work with, this way you will meet and connect with the right professionals.
5. Use Social networking web sites and forums like linked, facebook to find the right recruiters, insiders and employers.
If you will knock on the doors long enough and hard, somebody will open it. Anything is possible and all information is available, just do it!

Blackberry mobile devices are very popular in North America but European market is dominated by Nokia's Symbian smart phones and recently iPhone and Android devices are getting a good traction, due to its simplicity and easiness to work with and great emulators. I have asked mobile software development engineers that are working for outsourcing companies in Eastern Europe for companies like Yahoo, Google, Samsung Mobile, Nokia and they said one of the main reason there are no experienced Blackberyr software developers is simply because there are no actual Blackberry smart phones to work with and learn.

We know what 2G (GSM & CDMA) is, we know what 3G (WCDMA technology), how it works, we have heard a lot about 4G, LTE and WiMAX and have pretty good ideas what it is, anyone has any ideas what 5G & beyond wireless technology will bring us, what year wireless operators will start roll outs, 2012, 2015, 2020...
Interesting how wireless voice and mobile internet data communication will look like in 10 years from now.

I wonder if it is possible to launch a live search engine, similar to A Wolfram Alpha search engine, that uses mathematical computer program Mathematica based on Algebra, its own database and mathematical models.
It works differently from traditional search engines lie Google, Yahoo, Live, as it does not give you millions of "relevant pages" but exact answer you are looking for?
I just tested it, an on my question "what is 3g" i got this answer:
Input interpretation:
"3 G (gravitational constants)
Value:
2.002x10^-10 N m^2/kg^2 (newton square meters per kilogram squared)
2.002x10^-7 dyne cm^2/g^2 (dyne square centimeters per gram squared)
1.032x10^-7 ft^3/(slug s^2) (feet cubed per slug per second squared)
Interpretation:
gravitational coupling
Basic unit dimensions:
[mass]^(-1) [length]^3 [time]^(-2)
Computed by Wolfram Mathematica"
I guess still a lot of work and perfection for new "live search engine" to beat monster like Google.
when you type "wireless" it gives you a correct answer - "having no wires"

Kyocera wireless networks systems is advertising its iBurst 3.9G Mobile Broadband Technology. Interesting why they call it a 3.9G and not 4G or 5G? Is it because number 4 is not a lucky number in China and Asian countries?
Kyocera Corporation's technology for the iBurst® 3.9G Mobile Broadband Wireless Access (MBWA) system will begin appearing in iBurst base stations and terminals from Kyocera by the 4th Quarter of 2009.

Just saw advertising in Metro Toronto - "The world's first touch screen Blackberry smartphone is at a bell store near you. Pick up yours today and enjoy it on Canada's largest 3g network*. The Storm. Best on a lighting network." and the small print says:
*Based on total square kms on the 1xEV-DO vs. HSPA coverage as of January9, 2009.
Interesting how mobile operators are positioning their wireless coverage and the smartphone mobile devices. As the biggest and the first on the market, even though a few years ago CDMA technology operators were kind of distancing themselves from the GSM operators, but now since term 3g became a buzz marketing word, after Apple helped to popularize it with its 3g iPhone.
Any technology CDMA (1xEV-DO) or 3g (WCDMA) offers a broadband wireless internet on the smart phone devices, the main issues is to market it and sell it.
Interesting how WiMAX technology will be marketed and positioned by wireless marketers simply as WiMAX, 3g, lte, or 4g technology?

Apple sold 6.89 million iPhones in its FY2008 4th quarter ending Sept. 27. According to the Merc,, the iPhone was the US leader for smartphone sales during that period, surpassing the BlackBerry.
This figure is slightly below the estimates of the biggest iPhone boosters, and totals only 9.3 million phones for the year. However, MacWorld reports that Apple has confirmed that it passed the 10 million mark in the past few weeks after the end of the quarter. This means that with the Christmas season their 2008 sales should easily surpass 12 million units.
Before the iPhone was released, many (notably including Steve Ballmer) predicted they would not hit 10 million.

Evolution of 2g jobs to 3g and 4g jobs
With the 3g (third generation) wireless technology network roll outs in full swing, despite the global financial crisis, National mobile operators in USA, Canada, Europe, Africa and South America can not find enough qualified candidates to fill the positions ranging from RF Engineers, RNC Specialists, OMC Technicians, Project Managers and Node B optimization consultants.
So what experience is better, GSM (global systems for mobile communications) or CDMA (code division multiple access) to land a dream contract or a job? How about for WiMAX and LTE operators?
If a candidate has a good 2G (second generation), GSM or CDMA understanding and experience, he or she will be able to get 3G (third generation) telecoms jobs and the same applies to LTE (Long Term Evolution) and WiMAX Network roll outs, which are labeled as a 4g mobile wireless technologies.
Will 3G technologies bring more value to mobile lifestyle?
3G mobile devices have higher processing speeds and multimedia capabilities.
Customers will be able to use higher megapixel camera, store and listen radio and stream music, watch video, browse social networking web sites, play mobile games and send rich media content and MMS.
For business customers?
A business user using 3G-enabled hand-held devices will be able to download large-size files fast; his e-mail capabilities and Internet experience will increase considerably due to higher internet speeds and use a laptop on the go, just like in the office.
For a business laptop user, 3G will also enhance his mobile broadband experience, by enabling roaming across wireless networks of different technologies (WCDMA, HSPA, EVDO, EDGE, GPRS) all using single integrated USB/integrated modems.
Other than these, 3G will enable a host of other useful features, one such being location-based applications.
Through devices with integrated chip sets having GPS capability, working parents can track the movement of small children, pets and others.
Mobile service providers, in collaboration with restaurants, shops and advertisers, will create applications that can track the movement of people, willing to register for these services, and push advertisements to attract people when they happen to be in the vicinity of their shops or locations.

During last years the fight between famous mobile companies is still going. The main feature of mobile phones are design, performance and low price so most companies want to outdo each other.
There is no doubt this is the era is youths and you would be surprised to see their skills and various things they can do with their mobile phone.
If to consider all sections of the society the main things which makes mobile phone attractive are Talk, text, Music, Games and Mapsor does it so?
Nowadays it is difficult to imagine modern mobile phone without
with touch screen. So most popular mobile companies decided to made new mobile phones on the last word of technology.
Since the release of iPhone Nokia has been taunted for not having a handset that effectively competes with Apple's 3G iPhone. When Apple CEO Steve Jobs debuted the 3G iPhone, he took some swipes at the Finnish manufacturer by pointing out that the iPhone 3G managed to download a website in 21 seconds while the Nokia N95 took 33 seconds to load the same page.
So, it seems like the fight between most popular mobile companies will continue. Will hope that each step in developing of mobile phones will bring more satisfactions to their owners.

While browsing some job opportunities I've found that this ATCA platform is becoming very common among telecom vendors including Huawei and NSN, does any one know where to find related documentation about it?
Thanks.

Disaster can strike anyone, anywhere, anytime. It is the manner in which organisations handle disasters that make them great or mediocre. A well thought out disaster recovery plan is crucial for today’s businesses to survive. A disaster is not necessarily a natural calamity. In today’s world, where technology is what runs everything, a sudden network breakdown or other internal disruptions may cause serious harm to the business and result in cessation of services. It pays to be well prepared with contingency plans because you do not want to lose your customers to the competition who may be better equipped to handle disasters.
Telecommunication companies offering services such as 0800 numbers, 0844 numbers, numbers and 0871 numbers can provide continuity of communications even when disaster strikes. Their advanced call management features allow businesses to have complete control over inbound telephone calls. By customizing the inbound call flow pattern, the call management features allow businesses to have seamless performance even in the face of disasters. Incoming calls may be routed to other landlines and mobile phone numbers of employees. The customers need not even know what is happening in the background.
Sophisticated call management solutions can help companies handle disasters gracefully and with minimum disruption to services.

People came across this interesting article. Do share your thoughts on this new trend. THe summary is:
Operator Maxis in Malaysia is probably the only operator globally that has been able to successfully launch a product fb2mobile, that goes beyond being a bit pipe in mobile social networking. As compared with Vodafone 360 by Vodafone in UK, Social Net by AT&T in US, and messenger services by Orange in UK, they have a superior offering that covers all the elements of messaging and keeps the price plans simple and easily comprehensible.

2010 will be a year of mobile applications jobs for mobile operators. I think it is not going to be so much about the technology GSM vs. CDMA, WCDMA vs. WiMAX, WiFi, LTE, 4G or 5G. Companies that will offer useful applications and services on mobile devices will win the race. Customers do not care if it is 3G, 4G or 5G wireless technology, all they care is can you deliver the services.
Android, iPhone, Blackberry, Symbian, Linux mobile applications will be dominate the mobile development space in 2010

Canada's MVNO Mobile Operator Solo Mobile customer service has some issues:
"We have 2 solo phones and are quite happy with them. They are both pre paid. I currently have to remember to call in before my money expires. I used to have an automatic top up billed to credit card, but when I cancelled that credit card of course I lost this service. I would very much like to go back to this with my new credit card number. When I call the SOLO 800 number for customer assistance, there is no way I can talk to a person to arrange this. Can you help.
Looking forward to your reply.
Regards.
Solo Mobile Customer"
